Percentage Error Calculator

Does something feel off about the outcome of a formula? Well, in simple terms, this Calculator will tell you how far off that result is. This Calculator takes the true value (ie, the answer you should get) and the value you got, and tells you as a percentage.

Example:

True Value = 14
Observed Value = 7
Percentage Error = 50%

In this case the Percentage Error is 50% because you’d need to add 50% of 14 to the observed value to get the true value, the correct answer. But what if the Observed Value is larger than the True Value? Then the Percentage Error becomes a negative percentage.

Example:

True Value = 18
Observed Value = 20
Percentage Error = -11.11%

If you get a negative percentage, it means you need to take away that percentage from your Observed Value to get the True Value, like in this case where taking 11.11% of 18 away from 20 you will get to 18 which is the True Value in this example. So Percentage Error is -11.11%.
